Welcome to Visym Collector!

Collector is a mobile app for collecting consented and privacy preserving datasets for AI applications. We pay collectors like you to download our mobile app to submit "collections", which are videos with labeled activities and objects used for training visual AI.

In this tutorial, we will provide an overview of using the Video Editor. The editor is a user interface for refining the labels associated with a previously recorded video. For example, you may want to fix the box around an object to make it tighter, or correct the start and end times for an activity that was performed. The editor enables you to fix the labels for a recorded video to improve annotation quality.

We have provided a video tutorial below, along with a screenshot walkthrough to provide an overview of the features of the video editor.

Getting Started

1. First, select the video from your Video Collection View.
2. Review the video to identify the annotations to correct in the video.
3. Select the Video Editor Button on the top right corner to see the editing options listed from left to right:
   1. Exit Button to exit editing view
   2. Zoom in / Zoom out buttons
   3. Activity Editing Tool
   4. Bounding Box Editing Tool
   5. Undo Button to reset changes back to previously saved state
   6. Info Button for reviewing activity and labeling instructions

4. Click on the Info Button (?) to review the activity and labeling instructions, so you know how the video and the labels are supposed to be. Click OK to close the instructions.

5. First, we are going to fix the bounding box too big issue. To do so, we are using the Bounding Box Editing Tool that is located on the left of the Undo Button.

6. Click and select the subject for the bounding box in this video. In this video, the only option was person.
7. Single tap on the screen to start the video. At the same time, quickly draw a tight bounding box around the subject. It is crucial to have a tight bounding box around the subject for training machine learning models.

Tip: We recommend drawing the bounding box with both of your thumbs. One controls the top-left corner, and one controls the bottom-right corner of the box. Press and drag both fingers to define a box. You may use the "magnifying glass" to zoom in to help with small objects.

8. Review your edited bounding box. If it still doesn't look good, you can use the Undo Button to reset all the unsaved changes.
9. If everything looks good, you can click on the Save button to save your latest changes to your app. These local changes won't be uploaded to the cloud yet until you hit Submit to upload your changes to the cloud.
10. Next, we will fix the activity labels. We can use the Activity Editing Tool, the leftmost button on the top right corner. Click on that and you will see the list of activities in this video. Select the one that you want to edit. In this example, we are selecting "Texts on".

11. Remember, once you select the activity, the previous recorded label for this particular activity will be deleted. It is meant to be overwritten by your current edit. This means that if there are two instances of "Texts on" in the video, then both of them will be deleted and it is your responsibility to re-annotate both.
12. In general, if the activity you selected is not the first activity that the subject was performing in the video, tap outside of the bounding box to start the video to avoid mislabeling the first activity.

13. If the activity label you selected is indeed the very first activity the subject was performing in the video, like the one in this example, you can simply tap inside the bounding box to start labeling.
14. To label an activity, tap and hold inside the bounding box of the subject that is performing the activity. To stop labeling, lift your finger off the screen. You will notice that when you press in the box, a text caption appears over the box. This tells you that this activity is being recorded.
15. After you have made all the changes you need for the video, you can review them by replaying the video - scrub to any location in the video and play by tapping in the background.
16. At the end, make sure to save your changes by tapping on the Save button, and tap on Submit to upload your changes to the cloud. Then you are done!

17. Finally, after a few minutes, you can refresh your Videos feed in-app, and you will see your edited changes. This allows you to confirm that your edits were successfully received. Pull down to refresh in your video feed to see the edited video (note that this may take a few minutes to show up since we need to re-process your video, so keep trying).
